About this exercise

Vajrasana, also known as the Thunderbolt or Diamond Pose, is a kneeling yoga posture in which you sit back on your heels. It gently stretches the quadriceps, knees, and ankles while promoting an upright posture and calm breathing, making it one of the few yoga poses suitable for practice immediately after a meal.

How to Perform

  • Kneel on the floor with your knees together and toes pointing straight back
  • Slowly sit back onto your heels so your buttocks rest on them
  • Place your hands on your thighs with palms facing down
  • Sit tall by lengthening your spine, drawing your shoulder blades together and down
  • Relax your shoulders and breathe deeply through the nose
  • Hold the pose for the desired duration, then release by leaning forward and returning to a kneeling position
