About this exercise

The X-band side walk uses a short resistance band crossed into an X shape around both legs to add resistance to lateral stepping. It targets the glutes and outer thighs (hip abductors) and is commonly used as a warm-up or activation drill before lower-body training.

How to Perform

  • Step both feet inside a short loop band and cross it in front of you to form an X shape
  • Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, knees slightly bent, and hips lowered into a quarter-squat position
  • Step one foot out to the side, then bring the trailing foot in to restore shoulder-width stance
  • Continue stepping laterally for the target number of steps, maintaining tension in the band throughout
  • Keep your torso upright, toes forward, and avoid letting your knees cave inward
  • Repeat the same number of steps in the opposite direction

About the X-Band Lateral Walk

The X-Band Lateral Walk is a foundational movement that builds strength and muscle through controlled, progressive overload. Train it 1 to 2 times per week with 3 to 5 working sets per session, gradually adding weight or reps as form holds up.
