About this exercise

The wrist roller is a classic forearm-strengthening exercise that uses a cylindrical bar with a rope and attached weight plate. By repeatedly rolling the bar in alternating directions, you wind and unwind the rope, fully working both the forearm flexors and extensors under load.

How to Perform

  • Stand holding the wrist roller bar with both hands, arms extended straight out in front of you at shoulder height
  • Keep your core braced and your feet shoulder-width apart
  • Begin rotating the bar forward with one wrist, then the other in an alternating motion to wind the rope upward
  • Continue until the weight reaches the top of the rope
  • Reverse the rotation to lower the weight back down in a controlled manner
  • Repeat the wind-and-unwind cycle for the desired number of rounds or time

About the Wrist Roller

The Wrist Roller is a foundational movement that builds strength and muscle through controlled, progressive overload. Train it 1 to 2 times per week with 3 to 5 working sets per session, gradually adding weight or reps as form holds up.
