About this exercise

The wide to narrow stance jump squat is a plyometric exercise that combines two squat positions within a continuous jumping sequence. By alternating between a wide-stance squat and a narrow-stance squat with each jump, you challenge the quads, glutes, and calves from different angles while building explosive power and cardiovascular endurance. It is an excellent conditioning drill for athletes and those looking to increase lower body power.

How to Perform

  • Begin standing with feet wide apart, toes angled slightly outward
  • Lower into a squat, keeping your chest up and knees tracking over your toes
  • Explode upward and jump, bringing your feet together in the air
  • Land softly in a narrow stance and immediately descend into a squat
  • Jump again from the narrow stance, spreading your feet wide in the air
  • Land softly back in the wide stance and continue alternating without pausing
  • Keep your landings soft and controlled, absorbing impact through your hips, knees, and ankles
