About this exercise

The Wide Leg Sit-Up is a bodyweight abdominal exercise performed with legs spread apart, which reduces hip-flexor involvement and places greater emphasis on the abs. The wide stance increases stability and shifts the load directly onto the core.

How to Perform

  • Lie on your back with your legs spread wide and knees slightly bent, feet flat on the floor
  • Place your hands behind your head or cross them over your chest
  • Engage your core and curl your torso upward, bringing your chest toward your knees
  • Continue rising until your torso is nearly upright
  • Slowly lower yourself back to the starting position with control
