About this exercise

The Wide Front Elbow Plank is an advanced forearm plank variation where the elbows are placed wider than shoulder-width and positioned further forward, significantly increasing the lever arm and demanding greater core stability. This variation challenges the entire midsection as well as the anterior shoulder muscles.

How to Perform

  • Lie face down and place your forearms flat on the floor with elbows wider than shoulder-width and positioned in front of your shoulders
  • Push up onto your forearms and toes, forming a straight line from head to heels
  • Keep your hips level — do not let them rise or sag
  • Pull your navel toward your spine and squeeze your glutes to stabilise the position
  • Keep your neck neutral and breathe steadily throughout
  • Hold for the desired duration, then lower yourself in a controlled manner
