About this exercise

The weighted seated plate driver is a shoulder exercise performed seated, holding a weight plate with both hands and rotating it in a steering-wheel motion. The continuous circular movement engages the anterior and lateral deltoids while also working the forearms and core for stabilization.

How to Perform

  • Sit upright on a bench with feet flat on the floor
  • Hold a weight plate with both hands at the 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock positions, arms extended in front of you at shoulder height
  • Rotate the plate in a circular steering-wheel motion clockwise for the prescribed reps or time
  • Keep your core braced and shoulders away from your ears throughout
  • Reverse the direction and repeat the rotation counter-clockwise
  • Control the speed; avoid swinging the torso
