About this exercise

A seated rotational core exercise that trains the obliques and abdominals through side-to-side trunk rotation against an external load. Keeping the feet elevated increases the demand on the core and hip flexors.

How to Perform

  • Sit on the floor with your knees bent and your feet flat or slightly raised off the ground
  • Hold a weight plate with both hands at chest height
  • Lean back until your torso is at roughly a 45-degree angle to the floor
  • Rotate your torso to one side, moving the weight toward the floor beside your hip
  • Pause briefly, then rotate to the other side in a controlled manner
  • Keep your core braced and your lower back from rounding throughout
  • Continue alternating sides for the desired number of repetitions
