About this exercise

The weighted push-up with vest adds external load via a weight vest to the standard push-up, increasing the demand on the chest, triceps, and anterior deltoid beyond what bodyweight alone provides. It is an effective way to progress the push-up without requiring a barbell or bench.

How to Perform

  • Put on a weight vest secured firmly to your torso
  • Get into a high plank position with hands slightly wider than shoulder-width and arms fully extended
  • Brace your core and keep your body in a straight line from head to heels
  • Lower your chest to just above the floor by bending your elbows at roughly a 45-degree angle from your torso
  • Pause briefly at the bottom, then press back up to the starting position
  • Avoid flaring your elbows wide or allowing your hips to sag throughout the movement
