About this exercise

The Weighted Pull-Up is an advanced upper-body compound exercise where additional load is attached via a weightlifting belt, making the classic pull-up progressively more demanding. It primarily targets the latissimus dorsi, with strong secondary engagement of the biceps, upper traps, and core. This exercise is excellent for building raw upper-body pulling strength.

How to Perform

  • Attach weight plates to a weightlifting belt and fasten it around your waist
  • Grip the pull-up bar with an overhand grip slightly wider than shoulder-width
  • Hang at full arm extension with shoulders engaged and core braced
  • Pull yourself upward by driving your elbows down toward your hips until your chin clears the bar
  • Pause briefly at the top, squeezing the lats
  • Lower yourself in a controlled manner back to the dead-hang position
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
