About this exercise

The Lying Svend Press is a chest isolation exercise performed by pressing two weight plates firmly together between your palms and extending them away from the chest while lying flat on a bench. The constant inward squeezing force keeps the pecs under continuous tension throughout the full range of motion.

How to Perform

  • Lie flat on a bench and hold two weight plates pressed firmly together between your palms at chest level
  • Keep your elbows slightly bent and brace your core throughout the set
  • Press the plates forward and upward until your arms are nearly fully extended
  • Squeeze your chest hard at the top of the movement
  • Slowly lower the plates back toward your chest under control
  • Maintain inward pressure on the plates at all times to maximise pec activation
