About this exercise

The Weighted Lunge with Swing is a dynamic lower-body exercise that pairs a forward lunge with an arm swing using a dumbbell or weight plate, adding momentum and coordination demands to the standard lunge pattern. It challenges the quads, glutes, and core while improving balance and athleticism.

How to Perform

  • Stand tall holding a dumbbell in one or both hands in front of your hips
  • Step one foot forward into a lunge, simultaneously swinging the weight upward in front of you
  • Lower into the lunge so your back knee approaches the floor as the weight reaches chest height
  • Return the weight to the starting position as you drive back up to standing
  • Repeat on the same side for all reps, then switch legs, or alternate legs each rep
