About this exercise

The Weighted Bar Standing Lateral Raise is a shoulder isolation movement performed with a barbell held horizontally in front of the body. You raise both arms out to your sides simultaneously, targeting the lateral deltoids for broader, rounder shoulders.

How to Perform

  • Stand upright with feet shoulder-width apart, holding a barbell with a shoulder-width overhand grip in front of your thighs
  • Engage your core and keep a slight bend in your elbows throughout the movement
  • Raise the bar upward and out to the sides until your arms are approximately parallel to the floor
  • Pause briefly at the top, feeling the contraction in your lateral deltoids
  • Lower the bar slowly back to the starting position under control
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
