About this exercise

A dynamic compound exercise that combines a squat with a rotational wood-chop motion using a weighted bag or medicine ball, simultaneously training the legs, obliques, and core. The diagonal chopping pattern integrates lower body power with rotational trunk strength.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, holding a weighted bag or medicine ball with both hands
  • Raise the bag diagonally above one shoulder as you prepare for the movement
  • Simultaneously squat down and rotate your torso to bring the bag diagonally across your body toward the opposite hip, as if chopping wood
  • Keep your chest up and knees tracking over your toes during the squat
  • Drive through your heels to stand, returning the bag back to the starting high position
  • Complete all reps on one diagonal, then switch sides for the next set
