About this exercise

The weighted bag standing swing twist is a rotational core exercise performed standing, swinging a weighted bag or medicine ball from side to side with a twisting motion. The movement targets the obliques and abs through a dynamic, loaded rotation, also engaging the shoulders and upper back as stabilizers.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, holding a weighted bag or medicine ball in both hands
  • Hold the bag in front of your hips with arms slightly bent
  • Rotate your torso to one side, swinging the bag across your body and up
  • Pivot on the trailing foot and allow your hips to rotate with the swing
  • Control the swing as you bring the bag back through the center
  • Continue rotating to the opposite side in a fluid, controlled arc
  • Alternate sides for the required number of reps
