About this exercise

The wall supported back leg lift is a unilateral bodyweight exercise that isolates the glutes and hamstrings through hip extension. Holding a wall for balance allows you to focus on full range of motion and proper form without worrying about stability.

How to Perform

  • Stand facing a wall and place both hands on it at chest height for support
  • Shift your weight onto one leg and keep a slight bend in the standing knee
  • Squeeze your glutes and lift the opposite leg straight back, extending at the hip
  • Pause at the top when you feel your glute fully contracted
  • Lower the leg in a controlled manner back to the starting position
