About this exercise

The wall pulse is a bodyweight upper-arm exercise performed facing a wall, using it as a fixed surface to create resistance through rapid, short-range pressing movements. It targets the triceps with continuous tension through a pulsing motion and can serve as an effective warm-up or burnout finisher.

How to Perform

  • Stand facing a wall, roughly arm's length away, feet shoulder-width apart
  • Place both palms flat against the wall at shoulder height and shoulder width
  • Lean slightly forward so your body weight creates gentle pressure through your hands
  • Bend your elbows slightly, then push against the wall with a small, rapid pulsing motion
  • Keep your elbows close to your sides throughout to maximise triceps engagement
  • Maintain a straight body line and engaged core during each pulse
  • Complete the desired number of pulses in a controlled, rhythmic tempo

About the Wall Pulse

The Wall Pulse is a foundational movement that builds strength and muscle through controlled, progressive overload. Train it 1 to 2 times per week with 3 to 5 working sets per session, gradually adding weight or reps as form holds up.
