About this exercise

A challenging abdominal exercise performed with legs raised straight up toward the ceiling, which removes hip flexor assistance and forces the abs to do the majority of the work. The vertical leg position increases the demand on the rectus abdominis compared to a conventional sit-up.

How to Perform

  • Lie flat on your back on the floor or a mat
  • Raise both legs straight up until they are perpendicular to the floor, pointing toward the ceiling
  • Extend your arms forward or cross them over your chest
  • Exhale and curl your upper body off the floor, reaching your hands toward your feet
  • Squeeze the abs at the top of the movement
  • Slowly lower your upper body back to the floor while keeping the legs vertical
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
