Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Hex Bar Farmer's Carry.

MediumGlutesQuadriceps

About this exercise

The trap bar farmer's carry uses a hexagonal (trap) bar to perform a loaded walking carry, allowing a neutral grip and a more upright torso compared to standard farmer's walks with dumbbells or handles. It builds total-body strength, grip endurance, core stability, and leg drive.

How to Perform

  • Step inside the trap bar with your feet hip-width apart and the handles at your sides
  • Hinge at the hips and grip the handles, then stand tall to lift the bar off the floor
  • Brace your core, retract your shoulders, and keep your chest up
  • Walk forward with controlled, deliberate steps for the target distance
  • Maintain an upright torso and avoid excessive lean or swinging
  • At the end of the distance, hinge at the hips to lower the bar back to the floor under control
