About this exercise

The Suspension Triceps Extension uses gymnastic rings or a suspension trainer to perform an overhead triceps extension using bodyweight. The instability of the rings increases the demand on core stability and shoulder control compared to a fixed-bar version.

How to Perform

  • Set the rings to approximately waist or chest height and face away from the anchor point
  • Grip both rings with palms facing each other and lean your body forward, extending your arms in front of you
  • Keep your upper arms stationary and bend at the elbows to lower your head toward the rings
  • Stop when your hands are beside your temples with elbows pointing forward
  • Extend your elbows to press back to the starting position, squeezing the triceps at the top
  • Keep your core tight and body in a straight line throughout the movement
