About this exercise

The Suspension Push-Up to Side Plank is an advanced compound exercise that pairs a push-up performed with hands in unstable suspension straps with an immediate rotation into a side plank. It develops chest, triceps, and core strength while training rotational stability and balance.

How to Perform

  • Set the suspension straps to a low position and grip both handles with palms facing down
  • Walk your feet back into a push-up plank position with your body straight
  • Lower your chest toward the handles by bending your elbows, keeping your core tight
  • Press back up explosively to the starting position
  • Rotate your body to one side, stacking your feet and extending your top arm toward the ceiling in a side plank
  • Hold the side plank for a moment, then rotate back to face down and repeat the push-up
  • Alternate the side plank direction on each rep or complete all reps to one side before switching
