About this exercise

The suspension inverted row with the body parallel to the floor is the most demanding progression of the inverted row, requiring the lifter to hold the entire body horizontal while performing a full pull. This advanced variation builds exceptional back thickness and relative strength using only bodyweight and gymnastic rings.

How to Perform

  • Set the suspension straps so the handles hang just above floor height
  • Lie on your back underneath the rings and grip the handles with palms facing toward you
  • Extend your legs fully so your body is completely parallel to the floor with only your heels touching the ground
  • Keeping your body rigid like a plank, pull your chest up toward the handles by driving your elbows back
  • Pause at the top with your chest near the rings and your shoulder blades fully retracted
  • Lower yourself slowly and under control back to the starting position
