About this exercise

The Straight Arm Side Plank is a bodyweight isometric exercise where you support your body on one hand and the side of one foot, forming a straight line from head to heel. It is an excellent movement for building lateral core stability, oblique strength, and shoulder endurance.

How to Perform

  • Lie on your side with legs stacked and place one hand directly beneath your shoulder
  • Press into the ground to lift your hips, forming a straight line from head to feet
  • Stack your feet or place the top foot slightly in front for additional balance
  • Keep your free arm extended alongside your body or raised toward the ceiling
  • Brace your core and hold the position for the prescribed duration without letting your hips sag
  • Lower with control, then switch to the other side
