About this exercise

A standing shoulder mobility drill using a lightweight stick or dowel that progressively opens the shoulder joint through its full extension arc. By moving the stick from in front of the body overhead and behind the back with straight arms, it lengthens the anterior chest and shoulder structures while improving thoracic and glenohumeral mobility.

How to Perform

  • Stand upright holding a stick or dowel with both hands using a shoulder-width or wider overhand grip
  • Keep your arms straight and raise the stick from in front of your thighs up and overhead
  • Slowly lower the stick behind your body, moving as far into extension as your current shoulder mobility allows
  • Pause briefly at end range, then reverse the movement back to the starting position
  • Repeat for the prescribed reps, gradually widening or narrowing your grip to adjust difficulty
