A standing rear deltoid raise performed with a stick held behind the back, targeting the posterior shoulder and upper back. The position of the stick behind the body forces proper shoulder retraction and isolates the rear delts without involving the anterior deltoid.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, holding a stick horizontally behind your back with both hands
  • Hinge slightly forward at the hips, keeping your chest up and spine neutral
  • Raise the stick away from your back by squeezing your rear delts and upper back muscles
  • Pause at the top position, fully contracting the posterior shoulder
  • Slowly lower the stick back to the starting position
