About this exercise

The Step Back with Corner Touch is a reverse lunge variation where you reach down to touch the floor at the corner beside the front foot, adding a hip hinge and balance challenge to a standard lunge. It trains the glutes, quadriceps, and core while improving hip mobility and spatial awareness.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet hip-width apart and arms at your sides
  • Step one foot back into a reverse lunge, lowering the back knee toward the floor
  • As you lower into the lunge, reach the opposite hand down and across to touch the floor near the outside corner of the front foot
  • Keep your chest as upright as possible and your front knee tracking over the toes
  • Drive through the front heel to stand back up, bringing the arm back to your side
  • Alternate legs on each repetition
  • Move in a controlled manner, pausing briefly at the touch before rising
