About this exercise

The Stepback Air Bike is a standing cardio and core exercise that combines a backward step with the air bicycle motion — bringing the opposite elbow toward the raised knee while stepping back alternately. It elevates the heart rate while training oblique rotation and lower body coordination.

How to Perform

  • Stand tall with feet together and hands behind your head, elbows wide
  • Step your right foot back into a slight lunge as you drive your left knee up toward your chest
  • Simultaneously rotate your torso, bringing your right elbow toward your raised left knee
  • Return to the starting position and repeat on the opposite side
  • Keep your core engaged and your back straight throughout
  • Maintain a brisk, rhythmic pace as you alternate sides
