About this exercise

The step squat jack is a low-impact plyometric exercise that combines the lateral stepping pattern of a jumping jack with a deep squat. It elevates the heart rate, strengthens the lower body, and improves hip mobility without the joint stress of jumping.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet together and arms by your sides
  • Step both feet out wide simultaneously into a wide squat stance
  • Lower your hips into a squat, keeping the chest up and knees tracking over the toes
  • Drive through both heels to rise back to standing
  • Step both feet back together to the starting position
  • Repeat in a smooth, rhythmic pace
