About this exercise

The step knee thrust is a dynamic bodyweight exercise that combines a forward step with a powerful knee drive, targeting the hip flexors, glutes, and quadriceps. It builds explosive lower-body power and coordination while also elevating the heart rate for a conditioning effect.

How to Perform

  • Stand tall with feet together and arms at your sides
  • Step one foot forward into a partial lunge position, shifting your weight to the front foot
  • Drive the rear knee upward powerfully toward your chest while simultaneously swinging the opposite arm forward
  • Briefly hold the knee-up position at the top to emphasize the contraction
  • Step the raised foot back down to the starting position with control
  • Alternate legs with each repetition, maintaining a strong upright posture
  • Keep your core braced and your movements fluid throughout the set
