About this exercise

The star squat is a bodyweight lower-body exercise that combines a squat with an explosive jump and wide leg spread, landing with feet wide apart like a star shape before returning to the starting position. It develops leg power, coordination, and cardiovascular endurance.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet shoulder-width apart and arms at your sides
  • Lower into a squat by bending your knees and pushing your hips back, keeping your chest upright
  • Explode upward off the ground, simultaneously spreading your legs wide to each side while airborne
  • Land softly with feet wide apart, absorbing the impact by bending your knees into a wide squat
  • Push off again and bring your feet back together, landing in the starting squat position
  • Keep your core engaged throughout and maintain a controlled landing on the balls of your feet
  • Continue for the prescribed number of repetitions at a steady, explosive pace
