Star Plank

Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Star Plank.

MediumCore

About this exercise

An advanced plank variation where the arms and legs are spread wide into a star shape, dramatically reducing the base of support and intensifying the demand on core stability. The wider limb position forces the entire midsection to work harder to maintain a neutral spine.

How to Perform

  • Begin in a standard high plank with hands directly under your shoulders and feet together
  • Walk your hands out wider and simultaneously step your feet wide apart until your body forms a star shape
  • Keep your hips level and your body in a straight line from head to heels
  • Hold this position, breathing steadily while keeping your core tight and glutes squeezed
  • To finish, walk your hands and feet back in to the standard plank position before lowering
