About this exercise

A standing chest stretch where you grip a surface or support above and in front of you, then lean your body forward to open the pectoral muscles and the front of the shoulders. No equipment is needed beyond a fixed anchor point such as a door frame or pole.

How to Perform

  • Stand facing a vertical support such as a door frame, pole, or wall edge
  • Reach up and grab the support at roughly head height with both hands
  • Step one foot slightly forward and lean your chest toward and past the support
  • Allow your chest and shoulders to open as you feel the stretch across your pecs and shoulder fronts
  • Hold the stretched position while breathing steadily
  • Slowly return to the starting position before repeating or switching sides
