About this exercise

The resistance band overhead shoulder press is a standing pressing movement that targets the deltoids and triceps using a resistance band anchored underfoot. The band provides accommodating resistance — tension increases as the arms extend — making it an effective shoulder builder and rehab-friendly alternative to barbell or dumbbell pressing.

How to Perform

  • Stand with both feet on the centre of the resistance band, feet shoulder-width apart
  • Grip the ends of the band at shoulder height with palms facing forward and elbows bent
  • Brace your core and keep your back neutral
  • Press both hands directly overhead until your arms are fully extended
  • Pause briefly at the top, then lower the handles back to shoulder level under control
  • Repeat for the prescribed number of reps
