About this exercise

The Standing Lateral Stretch is a simple mobility exercise that lengthens the lateral trunk muscles, including the obliques, lats, and lower back. Performed upright, it improves side-bending range of motion and relieves tension along the spine.

How to Perform

  • Stand tall with your feet hip-width apart and arms relaxed at your sides
  • Raise one arm overhead, keeping it close to your ear
  • Gently lean your torso to the opposite side, reaching the raised arm across the midline
  • Hold the stretch for the desired duration, feeling the elongation along your side body
  • Return to the upright position in a controlled manner
  • Repeat on the opposite side
