About this exercise

A single-leg bodyweight exercise that combines a rear hip extension with an upward leg lift to target the glutes and hamstrings while challenging balance and core stability. It is performed standing on one leg and does not require any equipment.

How to Perform

  • Stand upright with feet hip-width apart, hands resting lightly on a wall or surface if needed for balance
  • Shift weight onto one foot and slightly hinge forward at the hips to maintain a neutral spine
  • Drive the free leg straight back into hip extension, squeezing the glute at the top
  • From the extended position, lift the leg further upward as high as control allows
  • Slowly lower the leg back down to the starting position without touching the floor
  • Complete all reps on one side before switching to the other leg
