About this exercise

The Standing Hand Behind Side Bend is a standing lateral flexion stretch that targets the obliques and lateral trunk. With hands clasped behind the head, you bend to each side to lengthen the muscles along the waist and improve spinal mobility.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet shoulder-width apart and lace your fingers behind your head
  • Keep your elbows wide and chest open
  • Slowly bend sideways to one side, bringing your elbow toward your hip
  • Hold the stretched position for the desired time
  • Return to the upright position and repeat on the opposite side
  • Keep your hips square and avoid rotating the torso during the bend
