About this exercise

A standing flexibility exercise that uses a stretching strap to extend the leg forward and simultaneously elongate both the hamstrings and calf muscles. The strap allows you to hold the stretch without needing exceptional flexibility, making it accessible for most athletes and beginners.

How to Perform

  • Stand upright on one foot, holding the stretching strap looped around the sole of the opposite foot
  • Lift the strapped leg forward until it is roughly parallel to the floor, or as high as flexibility allows
  • Flex your foot toward your shin to deepen the calf stretch while keeping the leg straight
  • Hold the position, breathing slowly and allowing the hamstring and calf to relax into the stretch
  • Release and repeat on the other leg
