About this exercise

A standing flexibility drill that stretches the quadriceps while simultaneously training single-leg balance. Holding the ankle behind you elongates the front of the thigh, and the balance challenge activates the core and stabilizer muscles of the standing leg.

How to Perform

  • Stand tall with feet hip-width apart and fix your gaze on a point ahead for balance
  • Shift your weight onto one foot, keeping a slight bend in the standing knee
  • Bend the opposite knee and reach back to grasp your ankle or foot behind you
  • Gently pull your heel toward your glutes until you feel a stretch along the front of your thigh
  • Keep your knees aligned and avoid arching your lower back excessively
  • Hold the stretch for 20–45 seconds, breathing steadily
  • Release and repeat on the opposite leg
