About this exercise

A standing bodyweight exercise that alternately drives each knee up toward the chest, building core and hip flexor strength while improving balance and coordination. It can be performed at a slow, controlled pace or used as a dynamic warm-up.

How to Perform

  • Stand tall with feet hip-width apart and arms relaxed at your sides
  • Brace your core and fix your gaze on a point ahead for balance
  • Drive your right knee up toward your chest as high as comfortable
  • Lower the right foot back to the floor with control
  • Immediately drive your left knee up in the same manner
  • Continue alternating knees in a smooth, rhythmic motion
  • Keep your torso upright and avoid leaning backward as you raise each knee
