About this exercise

The Standing Abdominal Vacuum is an isometric core exercise that targets the deep transverse abdominis muscle by drawing the navel inward toward the spine and holding the contraction. Regular practice strengthens the deep core, narrows the waistline, and improves postural stability.

How to Perform

  • Stand upright with feet shoulder-width apart and place your hands on your hips or thighs
  • Exhale fully, emptying as much air from your lungs as possible
  • Draw your navel inward and upward toward your spine as far as you can
  • Hold the contraction for 20–60 seconds while breathing shallowly through the chest if needed
  • Slowly release the contraction and take a full breath in
  • Repeat for the desired number of holds
