About this exercise

Squat Side Power Kick is a plyometric bodyweight exercise that pairs a standard squat with an explosive lateral kick. It builds lower-body power, hip stability, and cardiovascular endurance while targeting the glutes, quads, and hip abductors.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet shoulder-width apart and hands on your hips or in a guard position
  • Lower into a squat by bending the knees and pushing the hips back
  • Drive through the heels to stand up explosively
  • At the top of the movement, kick one leg powerfully out to the side at hip height
  • Return the foot to the ground and immediately descend into the next squat
  • Alternate the kicking leg each rep
