About this exercise

The squat and tip toes is a bodyweight compound movement that pairs a full squat with a calf raise on the way back up. It targets the quadriceps and glutes through the squat while adding a calve activation at the top, making it an efficient lower-body exercise.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet shoulder-width apart and toes turned slightly outward
  • Brace your core and keep your chest up throughout
  • Lower into a squat by pushing your hips back and bending your knees until your thighs are roughly parallel to the floor
  • Drive through your heels to stand back up
  • At the top of the movement, rise up onto the balls of your feet (tip toes) and hold briefly
  • Lower your heels back to the floor and immediately begin the next squat repetition
