About this exercise

The Split Sprinter Low Lunge is a deep hip-flexor and quadriceps stretch performed in a low lunge position with the front knee tracking over the foot in a sprinter-like stance. It opens the hip flexors and inner thighs while improving lower-body mobility and flexibility.

How to Perform

  • Start in a standing position, then step one foot forward into a wide split stance
  • Lower your back knee toward the floor while keeping the front foot flat on the ground
  • Sink your hips low so the front knee is bent to roughly 90 degrees and positioned over the ankle
  • Keep your torso upright and your hands resting on your front thigh or the floor for balance
  • Press your hips forward and down to deepen the stretch in the hip flexor of the back leg
  • Hold the position for the prescribed time, breathing deeply throughout
  • Return to standing and repeat on the opposite side
