MediumTrapezius

About this exercise

The Smith machine wide shrug targets the upper trapezius by elevating the shoulders with a wider-than-shoulder-width grip on the Smith machine bar. The fixed bar path helps maintain control and allows focus on the shrugging movement.

How to Perform

  • Set the bar on the Smith machine to mid-thigh height and load it with the desired weight
  • Grip the bar with a wide overhand grip, wider than shoulder-width apart
  • Unrack the bar and stand tall with arms fully extended and shoulders relaxed
  • Shrug your shoulders straight up toward your ears as high as possible
  • Hold the top position briefly, squeezing the trapezius
  • Lower your shoulders back down in a controlled manner
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
