About this exercise

A bodyweight push-up variation with the hands elevated on the fixed bar of a Smith machine, reducing the load on the chest compared to a standard push-up. The inclined angle shifts emphasis to the upper and middle chest while keeping triceps and anterior deltoids engaged.

How to Perform

  • Set the Smith machine bar at a comfortable height, roughly waist to chest level
  • Place your hands on the bar slightly wider than shoulder width
  • Walk your feet back so your body forms a straight line from head to heels
  • Brace your core and keep your body rigid throughout the movement
  • Lower your chest toward the bar by bending your elbows, keeping them at roughly 45 degrees from your torso
  • Push back up to the starting position by straightening your arms
  • Maintain a neutral spine and avoid letting your hips sag or rise
