About this exercise

The Smith Machine Incline Bench Press targets the upper chest by pressing at an incline angle with the guided bar path of the Smith machine. The fixed track reduces the need to stabilize the bar laterally, allowing greater focus on the upper pectoral fibers.

How to Perform

  • Set a bench to a 30–45° incline and position it under the Smith machine bar
  • Lie back on the bench and grip the bar slightly wider than shoulder-width
  • Unrack the bar by rotating it and lower it under control to your upper chest
  • Press the bar back up until your arms are fully extended
  • Repeat for the desired number of reps, then re-rack by rotating the bar into the safety hooks
