HardQuadriceps

About this exercise

A unilateral lower-body exercise performed in the Smith machine with the front foot elevated on a step or platform. Elevating the front foot increases the range of motion for the front leg, placing greater emphasis on the quadriceps and hip flexors while the Smith machine's fixed bar path adds stability for heavier loading.

How to Perform

  • Place a step or low platform in front of the Smith machine
  • Set the barbell across your upper traps and position your front foot on the elevated platform
  • Step your rear foot back to a comfortable split stance on the floor
  • Unrack the bar and stand tall with your core braced
  • Lower your rear knee toward the floor while keeping your front shin as vertical as possible
  • Drive through your front heel to return to the starting position
  • Complete all reps on one side before switching legs
