About this exercise

The sliding leg bird dog is a core stability variation of the classic bird dog in which the extended leg slides along the floor instead of being lifted, increasing the demand on the lumbar stabilizers and glutes while keeping the pelvis level throughout the movement.

How to Perform

  • Begin on all fours with your hands directly under your shoulders and knees under your hips
  • Brace your core and maintain a neutral spine with your head aligned with your torso
  • Simultaneously extend your right leg back by sliding it along the floor and reach your left arm straight forward
  • Hold the extended position for a moment, resisting rotation in the hips and spine
  • Slide the leg back and return the arm to the start position
  • Repeat on the opposite side (left leg, right arm) and continue alternating
