Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Sled Side Leg Press.

MediumGlutesQuadriceps

About this exercise

A unilateral leg press variation performed on a leg press machine with the body positioned sideways on the seat. This angle shifts emphasis toward the glutes and outer hip musculature while still loading the quadriceps, making it an effective accessory movement for hip and leg development.

How to Perform

  • Adjust the leg press machine and load it with an appropriate weight
  • Position yourself sideways on the seat with one hip resting on the pad and your working leg on the footplate
  • Place the foot of your working leg in the centre of the footplate with toes slightly outward
  • Release the safety handles and lower the sled by bending your knee toward your chest
  • Press through your heel to extend the leg and push the sled back to the starting position
  • Complete all reps on one side before switching to the other
  • Keep your core braced and avoid letting your lower back round during the movement
