Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Sled Glute Dominant Leg Press.

MediumGlutes

About this exercise

A leg press variation with feet positioned high on the platform to shift the primary workload onto the glutes and hamstrings, reducing quadriceps involvement. This foot placement increases hip extension demand and is a popular technique for glute-focused hypertrophy.

How to Perform

  • Sit in the leg press machine and place both feet high on the platform, roughly hip-width apart
  • Adjust the seat so your hips form approximately a 90-degree angle at the starting position
  • Release the safety handles and lower the platform slowly by bending your knees toward your chest
  • Descend until your hips begin to lift or until you reach full comfortable depth
  • Drive the platform back up by pressing through your heels and mid-foot, focusing on engaging the glutes
  • Stop just short of locking out the knees to maintain tension on the muscles
  • Complete all reps, then re-engage the safety handles before exiting the machine
